What is My IP Address — Free Network Identity Tool

Instantly detect your public IPv4 address, geographic location, and ISP information. This tool makes a single API call to detect your public IP and then displays your network details — no data is stored, logged, or tracked by FixIt Localy.

Public IP vs Private IP

Your public IP address is assigned by your Internet Service Provider and is visible to every website you visit. Your private IP (like 192.168.x.x) is only visible within your local network. This tool shows your public IP — what the internet sees.

Location & ISP Detection

Beyond your IP address, we display your approximate geographic location (city and country) and your Internet Service Provider name. This data is derived from public IP geolocation databases and is approximate — not GPS-precise.

Why Your IP Changes

Most home ISPs assign dynamic IP addresses that change periodically or when you restart your router. Business and server connections typically have static IPs. Using a VPN will show the VPN server's IP instead of your real IP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is my IP address used for?

Your public IP address identifies your device on the internet. Websites use it for fraud detection, geographic content filtering (like showing local pricing), and rate limiting. It can reveal your approximate location and ISP.

Q: Can websites track me with my IP address?

Yes. Your IP address is visible to every website you visit. Combined with cookies and browser fingerprinting, it can be used to track your browsing activity. Using a VPN masks your real IP with the VPN server's address.

Q: Is my exact home address revealed by my IP?

No. IP geolocation is approximate and typically only identifies your city or region, not your specific street address. Your ISP knows the exact account holder's address, but public databases do not.

Q: Why is my location showing incorrectly?

IP geolocation uses public databases that may be outdated or imprecise. Mobile connections, VPNs, corporate networks, and satellite internet often show incorrect locations because the IP belongs to a data center or regional hub.

Q: Does FixIt Localy log my IP address?

No. We do not log, store, or transmit your IP address through our platform. The IP detection uses a third-party API (ipify.org) which has its own privacy policy, but FixIt Localy itself stores nothing.

Q: What is an IPv6 address?

IPv6 is the newer IP address format (e.g. 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334) designed to replace IPv4. This tool currently shows your IPv4 address. If your ISP uses IPv6 only, it will attempt to show your IPv4 equivalent.
